Vella wins Grand Champion Pen at Sarina Battle of the Breeds

Vella Farming won the grand champion pen - other breeds feeder steers at Sarina, with the Simmental cross steers making $1540.

The Sarina combined agents Battle of the Breeds on Friday, May 23 yarded a total of 931 head comprising 583 steers and 348 heifers.

The market held firm to dearer in all aspects of the sale due to a high volume of quality cattle yarded.

The sale turned out to be very successful with local vendors and buyers in attendance.

Buyers came from near and far, from frequent local buying power and buyers attending from Dingo, Moranbah and south eastern districts.

Steers sold from $300 to $1600 a head, averaging $924.43, while heifers sold from $410 to $1940 to average $747.37.

Highlights:

Vella Brahmans, Proserpine, sold the champion overall pen, with the Simmental cross steers making $1540.

BeeBlee Pastoral Co, Nebo, sold very good Brangus steers, to return $1600.

The Pickersgill Family, Yalabaroo, sold Brangus steers to return $950.

Schatkowski MacDonald, Blue Mountain, sold a great run of Charbray heavy feeders with steers making $1560 and the heifers returning $1180

L and D Laird, Pindi Pindi, sold Brangus weaner steers to $1040 and heifers to $800.

Mt Flora Cattle Co, Nebo, sold Droughtmaster weaner steers for $1180 and Charbray weaner steers for $1140 and were the champion pen of weaners of show.

Braeside 1 the Perry family, Nebo, sold Charbray weaner steers for $1180.

Tolsworth Hay and Grazing sold Brangus steers placing first in their class returning $1100.

Balnagowan Park, Pleystowe, sold a great run of weaned Brangus steers to top at $1030 twice.

M and L Deguara, Mia Mia, sold pregnancy tested in-calf Brahman heifers, to return $1940.

The Clein Trust, Nebo, sold great quality Brahman heifers, to return $1050.

D Sturdy sold Brahman heifers to return $1180.

Wahroonga Belmont Reds, Clarke Creek, sold registered weaner heifers to return $720.

Mt Flora Cattle Co, Nebo, sold Droughtmaster weaner heifers for $900, with the Charbray weaner heifers making $800.

Tolsworth Hay and Grazing, Nebo, sold number 4 breeder/feeder Brangus heifers placing second in their class returning $1450.
